Frequently Asked Questions

What does Viognier taste like?

Viognier is an aromatic white wine known for flavors of ripe peach, apricot, pear, citrus, and hints of honeysuckle and orange blossom. Despite its rich aromas and silky texture, a well-made Virginia Viognier remains fresh and balanced, making it incredibly versatile at the table.

If I enjoy other white wines, what is Viognier most similar to?

Viognier is often described as sitting somewhere between Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. It offers the rich texture and body that Chardonnay lovers appreciate, while still delivering the bright freshness and aromatic lift found in wines like Sauvignon Blanc. If you enjoy expressive, fruit-forward white wines, Viognier is a wonderful choice.

What makes Virginia Viognier different from Viognier grown in other parts of the world?

Virginia’s climate and diverse terroir produce a Viognier that is bright, fresh, and beautifully balanced. While Viogniers from warmer regions can become rich and heavily tropical, Virginia’s cooler nights help preserve natural acidity, creating wines with vibrant fruit, floral aromas, and an elegant finish.

Why does Viognier grow so well in Virginia?

Viognier has adapted exceptionally well to Virginia’s climate. Our warm growing season allows the grapes to develop expressive aromas, while cool evenings help maintain freshness and balance. The result is a wine with intense aromatics, lively acidity, and remarkable complexity—one of the reasons Viognier has become Virginia’s signature white grape.

Do you grow the Viognier grapes on your estate?

Not at this time. As a small boutique vineyard, we carefully source our Viognier grapes from trusted neighboring vineyards here in Loudoun County and across Virginia. Working with local growers allows us to showcase exceptional Virginia fruit while we continue expanding the varietals planted on our own estate.

Why do you source grapes from other local vineyards?

Our philosophy is to make the best Virginia wines possible. While many of our wines are produced from grapes grown on our estate, partnering with neighboring vineyards allows us to offer varietals we don’t currently grow and supplement our production in smaller harvest years. We work only with growers who share our commitment to quality, ensuring every bottle reflects the character and excellence of Virginia wine.
